What is two-factor authentication? And how to install it?
Two-factor authentication is an additional verification to secure your account. Each time you log into the hosting.fr client portal, in addition to a static username and the corresponding password, a dynamic access code is also required.
To set up this double verification, you will need external software for your smartphone or possibly your PC/laptop. We recommend the Google Authenticator app. It is available for both Apple and Android devices, as well as a browser extension for PC. After installing Google Authenticator, you can activate two-factor authentication as follows:
- Click on your username at the top right of the hosting.fr client portal after logging in.

- Select the “Profile” option.

- Scroll down to the “Two-factor authentication (2FA)” option and click the “Enable 2FA” button.

- To set up two-factor authentication on a smartphone or tablet, the easiest method is to scan the QR code that is individually generated for you.
- If you do not have the option to scan a QR code, you can also enter the token code specifically generated for you into the authentication software.
- In both cases, you will then need to enter a code generated in the authentication software into the “6-digit confirmation code” field and complete the setup by clicking the box at the top right. Please note that each code generated in the authentication software is valid for a maximum of 60 seconds and expires as soon as a new code is generated.

If you wish to disable two-factor authentication, navigate again to the profile settings and choose “Disable 2FA”. You will then be prompted to enter your current password for verification. Confirm the deactivation using the save button.

When setting up two-factor authentication for your hosting.fr client account, ten one-time passwords are also generated for login. These are intended, for example, in case of loss or damage to your smartphone, to allow you to access your client account via two-factor authentication. Therefore, please note these one-time passwords and keep them in a safe place. Using the button at the bottom right of the list, you have the option to copy all one-time passwords to the clipboard.
If you have not yet generated these one-time passwords when setting up two-factor authentication, you can also do so later as long as you have access to your client account. To do this, go to the user data overview and choose “Generate passwords”. You will then be prompted to enter your current user password. Confirm the generation of one-time passwords using the save button.

If you do not have any of your one-time passwords and also no longer have access to Google Authenticator, please contact hosting.fr support at support@hosting.fr for instructions on what to do next.
