How can I activate SSL for my website?
We offer both paid and free certificates for SSL encryption of your website.
If you use hosting.fr hosting, you can easily install the free “Let’s Encrypt” certificate. Once configured, this certificate will be automatically renewed every three months.
You can activate “Let’s Encrypt” for your domain as follows:
- Select the “Products” item from the menu on the left.
- In the “Products” menu, select the “Web Hosting” sub-item.
- In the overview, choose the domain to be processed in the “Domains” section and click on “Show details”. If you manage a large number of domains in your web space, you may need to click on “Show all” beforehand to get a complete overview of your domains.

- Go to the “SSL” section and click on “Edit”.

- Click on the “SSL Type” line and select the desired SSL type from the menu. In our example, it is the free “Let’s Encrypt” certificate, which is suitable for most private and commercial sites.

- At this point, you have the option to directly activate “Redirect HTTP to HTTPS” using the slider. This means that when accessing your page, the contents will be automatically transferred via an encrypted connection.
Please note: If you use a CMS like WordPress or Joomla, you should inquire about the necessary adjustments that can be made in your application before activating this option, otherwise the admin interface may become inaccessible. - Confirm the certificate configuration by clicking on “Save”.

- If you use hosting.fr hosting, you can also activate a paid RapidSSL certificate in the same way as a “Let’s Encrypt” certificate. Once configured, this certificate will be automatically renewed each year.
- To configure a RapidSSL certificate, follow the steps above and select the “RapidSSL (paid)” product in the “SSL Type” field.
- The annual costs for the certificate will now be displayed to you. Accept the costs by checking the corresponding box and complete your order by clicking on “Save”.

- If you prefer to deposit a certificate acquired from an external provider on hosting.fr hosting, select the “Custom” option in the “SSL Type” field.
- Click on the “Configuration” link to deposit the certificate.

- You will now be prompted to deposit your private key and certificate data.
- Deposit the data and optionally activate the “Redirect HTTP to HTTPS” slider if access to your data should only be guaranteed via an encrypted connection.
- Complete the certificate configuration by clicking on the “Save” button.

If you do not use hosting.fr hosting, you still have the option to purchase a paid certificate in the client interface:
- Select the “Products” item from the menu on the left.
- In the “Products” menu, select the “SSL” sub-item.
- Click on the “Configure a new SSL certificate” link at the top right.

- You now have the choice between “domain-validated”, “organization-validated”, and “extended validation” certificates. The choice of the appropriate certificate for your particular use should ideally be clarified in advance with your webmaster.

- You will then be guided through the ordering process.
- To order a paid certificate, you will need a CSR key that you have generated in advance. The way to create this CSR key varies depending on the operating system used, which is why we cannot provide a general guide at this point.
Please note: Please securely store the private key used to create the CSR, as you will definitely need it to configure the certificate on the target server. - Once the certificate is issued, you can copy or download it via the client interface. To do this, select the “Products” item from the menu on the left.
- In the “Products” menu, choose the “Domains” sub-item.
- Under the desired certificate, select “Show details”.

- In the “Details” section, you will have the option to download the certificate data as a file or copy it to the clipboard via the buttons.

The configuration of a new SSL certificate can take a few minutes after ordering, regardless of the type of certificate, and in exceptional cases, up to an hour. You can check the status of the certificate at any time in the client portal under “Products” -> “SSL”.
