How to set up spam protection?

  • Select the “Products” option in the menu on the left.
  • In the “Products” menu, select the “E-Mail” sub-item.
  • Under the email address to be processed, select “Show details”. If you manage a large number of email addresses, you may need to click “Show all” to get a complete overview.

  • Click on the “Spam protection profile” line to select a profile. Choose between the preconfigured profiles “Low”, “Medium”, and “High” or select “Custom” for individual configuration.
The higher the spam protection level, the more rigorously the filter rejects potential spam. A high spam protection profile means that incoming emails are checked very strictly according to various criteria, and even in the case of small anomalies, emails can be rejected as spam. A low spam protection profile would let emails with small anomalies pass, which can also occur in legitimate emails, and would only filter out emails clearly identifiable as spam.

  • By selecting a custom configuration, you have the following options:
    • Reject attachments: With this option, emails with potentially dangerous attachments (such as .exe or other executable files) are directly rejected by the server. Please note that recently, the .doc extension is also affected, as a large amount of malware has been distributed via this obsolete file format. The current Word format .docx is not affected.
    • Check headers: With this option, the headers of incoming emails are checked for suspicious patterns, such as fake senders, etc. Activation is recommended.
    • Antivirus: This option checks incoming emails for viruses and Trojans. Activation is recommended.
    • Spam protection: This option checks the content of incoming emails against a spam database and marks detected emails as spam if the “Mark as spam” option is also activated. Activation is recommended.
    • Directly reject spam: This option rejects emails recognized as spam, not even placing them in your inbox. Please activate this option only if you are sure that no legitimate email will be marked as spam by “false positives”. It is recommended to first activate only “Mark as spam” to test detection with frequent contacts.
    • Mark as spam: This option adds a mark in the subject line when an email is detected as spam by the server. Activation is recommended.
    • Greylisting: Greylisting rejects emails from unknown servers on the first pass with a temporary message. Since spammers generally do not try to resend, it is an essential function for spam filtering. Activation is recommended.
    • Spam evaluation: Here, you can choose how strict the spam detection should be and how many factors should be checked for the legitimacy of an email.

  • Finally, confirm your selection by clicking “Save”.

Please note: If you use one or more forwards to an inbox, the spam settings must be adjusted for both the forwarding addresses and the target inbox. The settings are managed separately.
