What is SMTP authentication?

A mail server generally only accepts emails from authorized and logged-in users for delivery. For this, the email client must first authenticate with the server when sending emails to ensure that it is indeed the mailbox owner sending the email.

For authentication with the server, a username and password are required. For hosting.fr mailboxes, the username corresponds to the email address you wish to send from, and the password is the one that belongs to that mailbox.
Please note: Sending emails via SMTP is only possible with a complete mailbox. A simple forwarding address cannot send emails and therefore does not have a password for authentication with the server.
