Are there limits for sending emails?

For spam prevention reasons, our server limits the number of emails you can send via hosting.fr mailboxes or via the web space of a shared hosting package. This also includes recipients in CC and BCC, which means, for example, that an email with 100 recipients in CC or BCC will be counted as 100 emails.

The server-side sending limits for mailboxes are as follows:

  • per minute: 120 emails (regardless of the recipient)
  • per 10 minutes: 250 recipients (regardless of the number of emails)
  • It is possible to have more than 250 recipients in a single email, but such an email can only be sent once in 10 minutes. A maximum of 1000 recipients is allowed.

Both limits apply at the same time. Therefore, if you have not sent an email in the last minute, but you have sent an email to 400 recipients in the last 10 minutes, you will have to wait 10 minutes after sending this email to send something again.

Please note: For IMAP/POP3 mailboxes, server-side sending limits cannot be adjusted or increased.

The sending limit for emails sent via the web space (e.g., via contact forms, order confirmations, etc.) is generally 25 emails every 30 minutes, to minimize spam sending via hacked websites or unsecured contact forms. In case of mass email sending via the website, emails may be held for verification by an administrator, or the web space may be completely blocked for email sending in case of significant anomalies. This will be visible as a status message in the hosting.fr client interface. This type of blocking does not affect email sending via your normal mailbox.

Depending on the use of the web space, we will be happy to examine your particular case to see if the sending limit can be increased for your website. However, in general: the hosting.fr infrastructure, especially in the shared hosting area, is not designed for sending mass mailings or newsletters. If you regularly send important mailings, we recommend using a dedicated mail server. For this, please contact hosting.fr support at support@hosting.fr for advice on the procedure to follow.
