How to configure a subdomain?

Configuration via the web space

If you use a hosting.fr web space, you can proceed with the configuration and setup of a subdomain directly via the web space. Here are the steps to follow:

  • Select the “Products” option in the left menu.
  • In the “Products” menu, select the sub-item “Web Hosting”.
  • Click on the “Configure a new domain” button at the top right of the web hosting dashboard.

  • In the product selection, choose the option “Create a subdomain”.

  • Enter the name of the new subdomain without HTTP/HTTPS and configure the subdomain as you wish.

  • If the DNS zone of the domain is also managed by hosting.fr, you have the option here to have the necessary changes to the DNS zone made automatically. To do this, turn the switch to “On”.
    It is recommended, otherwise the necessary A records must be entered manually in the DNS zone to ensure the accessibility of your subdomain. Existing DNS records will not be changed.
  • Complete the subdomain configuration by clicking the “Configure for free” button.

Configuration via the DNS zone

If you do not use a hosting.fr web space, you can configure a subdomain via appropriate A records in the DNS zone:

  • Select the “Products” option in the left menu.
  • In the “Products” menu, select the sub-item “DNS”.
  • In the “DNS Zones” section, under the domain to be processed, click “Show details”. If you manage a large number of domains, you may need to click “Show all” beforehand to get a complete view of your domains.

  • Click “Edit”.

  • Click the “Plus” symbol to add a new DNS record.

  • Choose the record type “A”.
  • In “Record Name”, enter the desired subdomain name.
  • In “Target”, enter the IP address of the server to which the subdomain should point.
  • Confirm the information by clicking the checkmark to the right of the record.
  • Finally, apply the changes by clicking “Save”.

Please note that in both configuration cases, it may take up to 24 hours for the DNS records to propagate and for your new subdomain to be properly accessible.
