How to register a new domain?
In the following, we explain how to register a new domain name in your hosting.fr client account.
- Select the “Products” item in the left menu.
- Select the sub-item “Domains” in the “Products” menu.
- Click on the “Register a domain” link at the top right.
- You will receive several options to choose from. Select the first option “Order/Transfer a domain”.
- Enter the desired domain name without www in the search field and click “Search”.
- If the desired domain name is still available, it will be automatically added to your cart. If a slot included in a reserved web hosting package is free, the domain registration will be free for you. If no included slot is available, the domain registration costs for the first year will be displayed here.
Please note that the renewal costs of the domain in subsequent years may differ from this price. Please check the current price lists under “Billing” -> “Price lists”.
- If the domain is already registered or if you want to transfer it from another provider, you will have the option to enter an AuthCode for the transfer at this point. Please note that a domain transfer is generally only possible with a valid and correct AuthCode. You must obtain this code from your current provider.
- If you already use one or more hosting.fr web hosting packages, you will then have the option to directly assign the domain to a web space via the dropdown menu and perform a configuration. This is also possible later, but will then be more tedious through manual assignment.
- In the next step, enter the domain holder’s data. You can select the desired contact from the list of created domain contacts by clicking on the line.
The icons on the right allow you to perform other actions:- With the magnifying glass, you can search for created domain contacts. This can be useful if you have many different contacts, for example in reseller accounts.
- With the plus symbol, you can create a new contact.
- With the eye symbol, you can fully display the data of the currently selected contact.
- With the pencil symbol, you can edit the currently selected contact.
- With the copy symbol, you can copy all the data of the currently selected contact to the clipboard.
- With the magnifying glass, you can search for created domain contacts. This can be useful if you have many different contacts, for example in reseller accounts.
- If you have assigned the domain to a web space, you can already perform a basic configuration at this stage. (This can be changed later if necessary.) For example, you can choose here if the domain should point to a website or just be a redirect to another existing domain name. The desired directory path can also be recorded here.
- If you want to directly configure settings like the PHP version or the web server used, click here on “Show advanced settings”. Otherwise, the configuration will be done with the default settings.
- Click on the “To the order summary” button. You will first be directed to a summary of your chosen options, where any potential costs will also be summarized. If everything is as desired, click on “Order with payment obligation” to finalize the domain registration.
Please note: When registering a domain name, you are not ordering a product, but acquiring a limited-time usage right. This takes effect immediately after registration and will therefore be immediately billed by the registry. Please therefore carefully check before registering a domain if the spelling, etc. matches your wishes. Domain names cannot be corrected after their registration.
Additional options when registering a domain
Especially if you work as a reseller and want to offer our products to your own customers, the following tips may be useful to you.
Registering a domain for a sub-account
Do you want to provide your customers with their own administrative access to manage their web hosting products, it is recommended to create sub-accounts with possibly limited rights. When registering or transferring domains, you have the option, with already created sub-accounts, to order the domain not for your main account, but directly for one of your sub-accounts. To do this, simply click on the bar and select the desired sub-account.
Registering multiple domains in one operation
If multiple domains need to be transferred, you can do this comfortably in one step. To do this, simply click on the “Multiple search” point in the domain name search field.
An extended input field opens with instructions on how the domain data should be formatted. Please enter one domain name per line without www. Pay attention to the fact that the spelling of the desired domains as well as any entered AuthCodes are correct.
In case of errors during the order or transfer of a domain, you can find information on the cause in the domain dashboard. To do this, click on “Other options” in the “Orders” section. You will then get an overview of the domain orders in your client account and can display the details of each operation.
