Introduction

To keep Debian automatically updated, the distribution offers an update tool that allows the system to be periodically updated. Since this mechanism uses the normal package manager (apt), all repository sources must be properly configured.

Install Packages

apt update
apt install unattended-upgrades apt-listchanges

Configure Updates

Debian provides wisely chosen default settings. If changes are necessary, this can be done in the /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/52unattended-upgrades-local file. Automatic updates are enabled with

dpkg-reconfigure unattended-upgrades
